Settlement Visa

You may need to enter the UK after you have married a British Citizen, or a person resident in the UK with ILR; or you are a child of a British Citizen or a person with ILR. SPOUSE/CIVIL PARTNER VISA

You can apply for a spouse/civil partner visa, if you are the spouse/civil partner of a UK citizen, person settled in the UK or having a refugee status / humanitarian protection in the UK, and enter the UK. Besides showing that you are a suitable person, there are certain conditions that you must meet in order to successfully obtain a visa under this category:
  • You need to have met and married your spouse/civil partner or lived together for 2 years prior to making the application
  • Your relationship needs to be genuine and ongoing and will be ongoing when you enter the UK
  • You must meet the minimum income level and be able to continue doing so when you enter the UK
  • You must have accommodation that meets the legal requirements
  • You must have sufficient grasp of the English language

Normally, you have to obtain this visa before entering the UK. However, in circumstances where the applicant is already in the UK, and certain conditions are met (e.g., if you arrived in the UK on a fiancé(e) visa) you can ‘switch’ to this visa.

CHILD VISA

Similar to the Dependent Relative visa, A Child visa is one of the most difficult to obtain and needs careful review and care. There are certain conditions that you must meet in order to successfully obtain a visa under this category
  • The child is under 18 years old
  • Not leading an independent life
  • There is enough income by the parent(s) to meet the minimum income level and be able to continue doing so when the child enter the UK
  • There must have accommodation that meets the legal requirements
  • The parent(s) in the UK has ‘sole responsibility’

ANCESTRY VISA

If you are British citizen by descent (for example if you were born outside the UK and your parent(s) were British) then your children 17 and over can obtain an ancestry visa that allows them to enter the UK for five (5) years, and subsequently obtain permanent residence.
